Santa Clarita Woman Dies In Motorcycle Crash On I-405

A Santa Clarita woman was killed in a motorcycle collision on the Interstate 405 near Roscoe Boulevard on Monday at about 8:45 p.m., officials with the California Highway Patrol West Valley Area Office said Tuesday.

Sharry Friel, 50, was traveling northbound on I-405 when her 2009 Yamaha motorcycle collided with a disabled 2011 BMW in the leftmost lane, driven by Craig Varner, 27, of Newhall.

Friel was ejected from the vehicle into the adjacent lane, where she was hit by an oncoming car driven by Alyson Wells, 23, of North Hills.

Friel was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel at 8:58 p.m.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident and the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, according to a report by the CHP West Valley Area Office.

All parties were using safety equipment, according to the CHP report, and no other injuries were reported.
