A big rig fire slowed traffic on the southbound 5 freeway in Santa Clarita Monday evening.
At around 6:20 p.m. Monday, first responders received reports of a vehicle fire on the southbound 5 freeway near Lake Hughes Road in Castaic, according to dispatch supervisor Jeremy Stafford with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“It was reported that a semi truck trailer was on fire,” Stafford said. “It looks like the brakes were on fire, which spread into the trailer.”
A hazardous materials (HAZMAT) response was initially called for by officials, but it was soon determined that HAZMAT units were not needed.
Traffic on the southbound 5 was temporarily slowed during the incident.
No major injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
