The California Department of Transportation or Caltrans will close portions of the Antelope Valley Freeway or SR-14 the first week of August, officials said Thursday.

The closures will be from the Golden State Freeway or I-5 to Sand Canyon Road as part of a pavement rehabilitation project, according to officials. Closures are listed below and subject to change.

Monday, August 3, through Friday, August 7

Northbound SR-14

•         7 p.m. to 3 p.m. – Up to four lanes between I-5 and Sand Canyon Rd.
•         6 p.m. to 3 p.m. – On- and off- ramps CLOSED between Sierra Highway and Sand Canyon Rd.
•         7 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Connector from northbound I-5 CLOSED

Southbound SR-14

•         6 p.m. to 5 a.m. – Up to four lanes between Sand Canyon Rd and I-5
•         5 p.m. to 5 a.m. – On- and off- ramps CLOSED between Sand Canyon Rd. and Sierra Highway
•         11 p.m. to 4 p.m.   – Connector to southbound I-5 CLOSED

Friday, August 7, through Saturday, August 8

Northbound SR-14

•         7 p.m. to 7 p.m. – Up to four lanes between I-5 and Sand Canyon Rd.
•         6 p.m. to 7 p.m. – On- and off- ramps CLOSED between Sierra Highway and Sand Canyon Rd.
•         7 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Connector from northbound I-5 CLOSED

Southbound SR-14

•         6 p.m. to 7 a.m. – Up to four lanes between Sand Canyon Rd and I-5
•         5 p.m. to 7 a.m. – On- and off- ramps CLOSED between Sand Canyon Rd and Sierra Highway
•         11 p.m. to 4 p.m.   – Connector to southbound I-5 CLOSED

The project may require full freeway closures, but advance notices will be provided.

Detours will be posted and Caltrans advises motorists to please “Be Work Zone Alert”.

New pavement will improve mobility and enhance safety for motorists. J McLoughlin Engineering Co. is the contractor on the $6 million project which is expected to be completed in the summer of 2016.
