The closures are part of a project with the goal of constructing a new segment of truck lane on southbound I-5 and adding a mixed-flow lane in both directions between Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue and SR-14.

Ramp closures will be nonconsecutive, detours will be signed and no unusual levels of dust, noise or vibration are expected, officials said. Closures are subject to change.

Northbound I-5

  • Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 between the end of the existing truck lane and Lyons Avenue will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The most restrictive closures will occur between 1 and 4 a.m.
  • Calgrove Boulevard on-ramp and off-ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Southbound I-5

  • Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 between Lyons Avenue and the end of the existing truck lane will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The most restrictive closures will occur between 1 and 4 a.m.
  • Truck route connector will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Calgrove Boulevard on-ramp and off-ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Eastbound/westbound Lyons Avenue on-ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Southbound I-5 connector to northbound SR-14 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

About the Project

This project is set to construct a new segment of truck lane on southbound I-5 and add a mixed-flow lane in both directions on I-5 between Pico Canyon Road/Lyons Avenue and SR-14.

Three median retaining walls and two short sections of outside retaining walls will be built to accommodate this widening, according to a Caltrans news release.

Improvements will ease traffic delays, improve goods movement, absorb traffic growth due to population increase (both residential and commercial) and enhance safety by separating truck traffic from passenger vehicles, Caltrans officials said.

Construction began in May 2012 and is set to be completed in late 2014.
