“Officers were out in force this morning on San Francisquito Canyon Road to slow people down,” according to a CHP Newhall Twitter post. “They wrote a total of 25 citations with the fastest being 92 MPH.”

This sting operation comes on the heels of a fatal traffic collision that occurred Monday morning on San Francisquito Canyon Road just north of Copper Hill Drive in Saugus.

“We try to get out to the canyon roads as often as possible by sending our Special Enforcement Unit to focus on areas that have been deemed needing help,” said Officer Eric Priessman with the Newhall CHP Office.

With the freeways becoming more and more congested residents are using the canyon roads more to commute from the Antelope Valley into the Santa Clarita Valley and the CHP wants to remind them to slow down on these roads for their safety and for the safety of others.

  1. I board my horse on that canyon road and it is an act of God to cross that road with him due to the speeders, so a big thank you to the Sheriff Dept. For doing that.

  2. Good to hear this it’s getting crazy on that tosd

  3. I am glad for this effort by the CHP. I consider myself a fairly aggressive driver but my wife and I were thoroughly intimidated by the folks on this road. We pulled over three times to let them go by. It must be something I the air. They all seem to drive like maniacs.

  4. Please do more than just handing out citations that leave with the offender. Please put some kind of safe guard in place that will remain after CHP goes home to their families, so that the families who have to travel this area can do the same.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
