CHP officers arrested a man Thursday in Valencia after pursuing him down the grapevine and through Castaic.

The chase originated in the Bakersfield area around 4:30, said Officer Eric Priessman with the CHP Newhall office.
The suspect drove south along the 5 freeway, eventually headed through Castaic. The suspect reached speeds of up to 120 MPH during the chase.
“It came down into our area,” he said. “(After) they discontinued the pursuit because the couldn’t find (the suspect).”
Rainclouds north of Santa Clarita prevented aerial units from assisting in the pursuit until the suspect had driven into the Santa Clarita Valley.

“He was taken into custody at the Old Road, just south of Rye Canyon,” said Priessman.
The arrest was made at 5:21 p.m., close to the CHP Newhall office off of the 5. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, and no weapons were found, according to officials.
The driver was originally wanted for speed and a misdemeanor hit and run.
