Santa Clarita resident 14-year-old Wyatt Savaikie has been identified as the teen who was crossing the street with his skateboard when he was hit by a car, said Investigator McCracken with the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials responded to a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the intersection of Bouquet Canyon Road and Seco Canyon Road around 2:45 p.m. Skateboarder Killed In Bouquet Canyon, Seco Canyon Traffic Colli

Savaikie was pronounced dead at the scene,  said Sgt. David Shoemaker of the SCV Sheriff’s Station, in a previous interview, adding that “There’s a skateboard in the scene that is broken. I don’t know if he was walking with it when he was struck or riding it at the time. We do have a statement from (the driver). He is being very cooperative with us at this point.”

“The incident is still being investigated but preliminary witness statements said the driver did run the red light,” said Sgt. Richard Cohen with the SCV Sheriff’s Station’s Traffic Division, adding that all fatal crashes and cases similar to this are presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, whose officials determine whether to charge any parties involved in the case.

Bouquet Canyon Road northbound of Seco Canyon Road was closed for hours after the incident. The left lane was opened around 7 p.m., about four hours after the incident.

The right lane remained closed for another couple hours while crews cleaned up the road.

Savaikie was going to be a freshman at Valencia High School this fall, Hart District officials said.

  1. This is devastating. He was a friend of my grandson Zach. They went to school together and we’re very good friends. We would see Wyatt riding his bike and skateboard all the time. He only lived a few blocks over from us. My heart is so saddened. Prayers and love to his family.

  2. I’m so sorry. So very sad.

  3. No driver in this community ever stops before turning right on red and I do mean NO
I HAVE PREACHED ABOUT THIS FOR 20 YEARS OUT HERE.
The sheriff won’t listen nor will the CHP, somewhere in their minds they believe all drivers abide by the motor vehicle code. They don’t & bicyclists and boarders are ALL GUILTY.

    • You are so sick. A parent lost their child. My son went to school with him. This corner is horrible because many making a LEFT turn onto bouquet don’t watch for pedestrians. It’s a horrible accident and this babylast his life. We dove past as it had just happened. Wyatt was on the north bound side of bouquet. So no wonder your preaching isn’t being listened to. You get the facts wrong. The cross walk should only be on the other side the south side of the street. Praying for his family and friends as they mourn his loss.

    • I agree with you, but in this situation I believe he was not turning right…he was going straight through the intersection

    • You should be ashamed of yourself. Get off your soap box and find something productive to do. Your bitter angry rant is not needed here.

As for the family my heart breaks for you. No parent should ever outlive their babies. I prey he did not and is in the arms of ones watchin over you..

  4. Right where that happened about a year ago a kid lost control of his skateboard, it flew in the street and I drove over it. I felt bad for the kid because he was really sad so I gave him some money for a new one. it was Wyatt. I remember him. He was sad and he cheered up when I gave him the cash. I had said to be careful, but now I wish I had said more. ?

  5. Although I did not know this young teen, I cried of just the thought. My condolences to this young man’s family who are left grieving such a great loss. Residents/citizens this is not just a problem in Santa Clarita, it is everywhere. Those of us who are behind a moving motor vehicle are held accountable for our actions, we control our vehicles, not the pedestrian or bicyclists. Everywhere you drive, drivers are on their cell phones being distracted even though it is against the law. Not too far from this accident I witnessed 2 young boys on bicycles attempting to cross the street, and a male driver in a silver mini van not paying attention hit one of the young teens and saw him fly and hit the ground…that man was lucky he was going slow…why did this happen? Not paying attention, on his cell phone? Possibly, but the point here is ALL DRIVERS everywhere need to put theire cell phone gadgets

  6. So sorry for the lost of a child. Prayers go out to the family

  7. I’m new in the neighborhood and noticed a lot of kids running and jumping on their skateboards right in front of Bank of America. I told my wife about it that sooner or later, bad things can happen. These kids using the banks steps and railings for their jumps. Also, one of the first thing I noticed, a lot of motorist drives like crazy here.I know cause I do run along Bouquet and you just feel it when they pass through you. It’s a 45/mi. zone, but some go 60mi/hr. Something needs to be done here! An innocent, young boy just lost his life! RIP Wyatt!

  8. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Family, he was a beautiful boy and full of life. Our boys grew up together, we are so sorry for your loss.

  9. Please parents teach your children to look both ways… As a nanny I see in canyon country kids are kinda naive and they don’t pay attention to the cars on the street and Drivers please look out for those kids that are not paying attention and watch out for the lights don’t fly by trying to catch it cause the pedestrian always has the right if way regardless even if they’re j walking. Horrible thing to happen to such a beautiful soul . ?

  10. My heart goes out to the family of Wyatt. As a community, we should enforce change of that”freeway” zone area. People speed with no problem and my belief part of the problem is the camera light. To avoid a ticket, people speed. A petition should be filed to get rid of the light and make changes. Drive by on Saturdays and you’ll see what I’ve seen, cars vs pedestrians. I hope something positive happens. Wyatt should not die for changes to take place. He could have been my child, your child. Prayers for the family. RIP Wyatt.

  11. Ii love you Wyatt Savakie, enjoy heaven forever .
