Omar Garcia, 29, of Canyon Country, was killed in the crash, said Sarah Ardalani, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Garcia was driving a 1996 Nissan pickup truck on the southbound I-5 transitioning to the 405 Freeway around midnight Saturday, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

For unknown reasons, the driver made a dangerous turn, causing the vehicle to overturn several times and ejecting the driver before ending up on the left side embankment, said officials.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene at 12:35 a.m. Sunday and transported Garcia to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills. He was pronounced dead just before 2 a.m.

All southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway leading to the 405 were shut down during the investigation and were reopened at approximately 5:30 a.m., according to officials.

Investigators have not yet determined whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

CHP officials are encouraging anyone with information to contact Officer Tome at the Newhall CHP office at 661-294-5540.

Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work.
