The collision occurred shortly before midnight, according to CHP officials. Preliminary investigation results indicate the victim, travelling southbound, veered to the left, across a line of traffic cones, before striking a traffic board that had been set up for the construction.

The victim got out of the vehicle, CHP officials said, and crossed the median between the northbound and southbound lanes. While crossing in front of northbound traffic, the victim was struck by a car.

Paramedics arrived on scene and began life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene.

All northbound traffic was temporarily stopped and diverted off at Valencia Boulevard for approximately 50 minutes following the collision. Afterward, the number 3 and number 4 lanes were opened.  Shortly before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, all lanes were reopened.

It is unknown at this time if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
