Rich Oldhafer and his 3-year-old daughter Erin were struck by a drunk driver on Jan. 16 on Golden Valley Rd. and were both transported to a local hospital, according to fire officials.

Tiffany Hernandez organized a Meal Train to assist the family after they recover from the injuries the father and daughter sustained.

“Santa Clarita has really come together to support the family,” said Hernandez. “I just wanted to help in any way I could.”

The meal drive has been set for 30 days, and as of Friday afternoon, only 10 spots remain for food donations.

The suspected DUI driver, Matthew Charles Thibodeau, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Ed Winter, Assistant Chief of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

CHP investigators suspect alcohol and excessive speed played a part in a fatal crash that killed one and sent three to the hospital Tuesday night.

Investigators believe around 10:50 p.m. a Honda Civic traveling “at a high rate of speed” southbound on Golden Valley Road, turned left on a red arrow to Dorothy Street, and then collided with a Toyota Sienna heading across the intersection on Golden Valley Road.

The Oldhafer family is still currently recovering from the injuries. To donate, visit the Meal Train website.
