Two Killed, Northbound 5 Shut Down As CHP Investigates Fatal Crash Near Pyramid Lake

Two people were killed and two more were critically injured in a Wednesday evening crash on the northbound 5 freeway just south of Vista Del Lago, officials said.

“Two were transported to Henry Mayo,” said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Martin Rangel. “Two were dead on arrival.”

The crash was reported shortly before 9 p.m.

CHP officials blocked off three lanes of the highway just near Pyramid Lake, stalling traffic for at least two miles as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.

A SigAlert was issued at 8:53 p.m. until further notice, stalling traffic leaving Santa Clarita and Castaic. It was initially set to block all four lanes of traffic, but at 9:10 p.m., CHP officials began allowing cars through the No. 4 lane.

The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
