Starting Tuesday, Feb. 13, the southwest segment of trail between Newhall Ranch Road and Anza Drive will be closed for an estimated two months as the city continues to widen the bridge that spans over San Francisquito Creek, according to city officials.
Residents should be advised to use alternate routes during this time, which may include taking Newhall Ranch Rd. southwest, then taking McBean Pkwy southeast until it merges with the original trail.
At the same time, the eastbound bus stop on Newhall Ranch Rd. will also be temporarily relocated as result of the work. The temporary bus stop will be located on the northbound side of Avenue Tibbets, before the crosswalk on Newhall Ranch Rd.
This temporary bus stop is also expected to last two months, according to city officials.
Construction on the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project began in May of 2017, and is part of the Building and Creating Community theme in the Santa Clarita 2020 plan. The goal of the project is to widen the Newhall Ranch Road Bridge, in order to provide an additional traffic lane in each direction, according to officials.

The Newhall Ranch Road Bridge Widening Project is also meant to add a raised median, as well as new protected sidewalk and bike path on the south side of the bridge, said city officials.
Other additions to the bridge include new street lights, a bus turnout on the south side of the road and a San Francisquito Creek Trail gap connection in the west bank below the bridge, according to the project plan.
The bridge expansion is set to improve vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist safety and accommodation, said city officials.
The project is expected to be completed by October of 2018.
