Vehicle Fire On 14 Freeway Snarls Friday Morning Commute

A “fully involved” vehicle fire on the 14 Freeway, briefly closed three lanes, but impacted traffic for miles on the 14 Freeway.

The vehicle fire was first reported on the southbound 14 Freeway at Newhall Avenue at about 7:45 a.m. with firefighters on scene 5 minutes later, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.

A black truck was “fully involved,” with smoke and flames coming from the underside of the vehicle, in the no. 2 lane of the Southbound 14, according to CHP.

The vehicle moved to the shoulder where the flames continued to engulf the truck, said witnesses on scene.

Fire officials extinguished the blaze by 8:20 a.m., with no reported spread to the surrounding brush, according to fire officials.
