“We’re in southwest Montana in the most beautiful, mountainous, rural part of our state,” said John Sampson of Ruby Springs. “It’s a very nice setting, and certainly on the upper scale end of what you would find or expect in a fishing lodge.”Ruby Springs Lodge Montana - Top Montana Fly Fishing Resorts

Whether guests are beginner or expert fly fishers, they can join a private guide along the Ruby River, as well as the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Jefferson and Madison Rivers.

“You’re always fishing a different river it seems every day, which is such nice variety,” Sampson said. “Our guests loves to get a full variety of the different fisheries. You’re certainly not fishing the same water every day.”

Now in its 23rd year of service, Ruby Springs Lodge opened its doors for the fly fishing season on April 4, and staff are currently enjoying sunny, cool days with lights winds and few people on the river.

With only about 20 guests visiting at a time, Ruby Springs Lodge offers a private, tranquil getaway from the big city with high-end lodgings and dining.

“We are certainly the high-end option of a Montana mountainous stream vacation,” Sampson said. “We have beautifully appointed cabins along the banks of the river, we have five full-time chefs in our kitchen… We have got a fabulous staff in place — many of them have been here with us for 20 years and longer.”

Space is quickly filling up through the end of the fly fishing season in October, so Sampson encouraged anyone interested in booking their vacation to do it soon.

“We still have a little bit of space left,” he said. “So if you’re in the grind of the rat race and you want to take a three- or four-day trip … we’d love to have you come up.”
