Two burglary suspects are in custody after sheriff’s deputies set up a containment in Stevenson Ranch Wednesday afternoon.
Shortly after 1 p.m., a female resident of a home in the 26000 block of O’Hara Lane came home and found a man running out the back door. Deputies responding learned that there was not just one, but two suspects in the break-in and quickly captured one suspect near the home.
According to Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Lt. Mark Hershey, the pair initially tried to blend in with some teens hanging out in a nearby garage. Both Felicia Norfolk, 23, of West Hollywood and Marcus Swayne, 30, of Los Angeles, also tried to dispose of stolen items, including a laptop computer, in the garage. Norfolk stayed in the garage and was arrested almost immediately.
Swayne fled the garage and deputies set up a containment that included streets in the area of O’Hara Lane, including Kavenaugh Lane, Hemingway Avenue, Wordsworth Lane and Sandburg Place. Canine units were brought in around 3 p.m. and Swayne was caught around 4 p.m., hiding in the bottom of a built-in barbecue.
When they were arrested, Swayne was found to have stolen jewelry in his pocket and was wearing a stolen watch. Norfolk was carrying a stolen purse that also contained stolen jewelry. Hershey said that the value of the jewelry stolen was more than $25,000.
Swayne is in custody at the Santa Clarita Valley Station and Norfolk is at Century Detention Center in Lynwood. Each are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and are scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
