Two people were arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and 10 cars were impounded at a DUI and license checkpoint in Newhall, a sheriff’s lieutenant said today.
Deputies screened 732 vehicles at the checkpoint at Lyons Avenue and Wheeler Road between 8 p.m. Friday and about 2 a.m. today, Lt. Joe Efflandt said.

The impounded cars, taken mostly from drivers without valid licenses, will be held for up to 30 days, he said. Deputies handed out 24 tickets for various violations during the operation, Efflandt said.
