Two Cases Continued For Santa Clarita Men

Two Santa Clarita men involved in felony trials had their court cases delayed Tuesday, according to officials with the District Attorney’s Office.

Substitute counsel for Jerry Moon called a continuance at Los Angeles Superior Court in San Fernando.

Moon pleaded guilty in a brutal Stevenson Ranch kidnapping and rape in January 2012.

A District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman expects that Moon will return to the stand on July 15. Several continuances have delayed his restitution hearing.

At a restitution hearing, damages are assessed based on the crimes and victim statements.

A Castaic man accused of attempted murder, Ronald Holt, also had his trial delayed at Los Angeles Superior Court in San Fernando Tuesday.

Holt is due back in court July 5 for a preliminary hearing.

A Santa Clarita teen is facing 43 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to a sexual assault Wednesday, according to Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Jerry Moon, 19, of Stevenson Ranch, was initially was charged with 17 felony counts, including attempted murder, forcible rape, false imprisonment by violence, first-degree residential robbery, first-degree burglary and multiple counts of sexual assault for his Jan. 8 assault.

He pleaded guilty to sexual penetration by foreign object by means of force,forcible oral copulation and forcible rape in front of Superior Court Judge Lloyd Nash in San Fernando.

Moon’s sentence and restitution hearing was scheduled for Jan. 30 in Department H in San Fernando. The agreement disposing of the case is that Moon will be sentenced to 43 years to life. He also will have to register as a sex offender.

A Castaic man accused of attempted murder after he allegedly beat another man in the head with a miniature baseball bat will be back in court in June to face charges.

Ronald Holt, 45, of Castaic, is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles in lieu of a $1 million bail.

Holt is accused of assaulting a Sunland man named Lance Love on March 17.

Witnesses said Holt was refused service at The Sundown Bar at the 7800 block of Foothill Boulevard in Sunland, because he was drunk, according to Detective Anthony Stephenson of the Los Angeles Police Department.

“He turned to the victim (who was inside the bar) and said, ‘Hey Lance, you know me, tell them I’m OK,’” Stephenson said.

When Love refused to get involved, Holt left the bar, came back and struck Love twice with a miniature baseball bat, Stephenson said.
