Two men are hospitalized after a drive-by shooting in Newhall Sunday night.
Detectives from the Sheriff’s Robbery and Assault team are investigating the incident that occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on 14th Street between Walnut and Chestnut Streets in Newhall.
According to Sgt. Cortland Myers of the Santa Clarita Valley station, the two individuals were walking on the street when they were approached by a white pickup truck and fired upon by someone inside the truck.
Deputies converged on the area after a resident called and reported hearing the gunshots. When deputies arrived, they found one victim, a 49-year-old male, lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to his torso and right arm. Paramedics responded and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Deputies found that a 39-year old man had also been hit by gunfire, sustaining wounds to his torso, right arm and right thigh. He was able to get to a local residence and was taken to the hospital by family members from that location.
Both victims are in critical condition. There is no further description of the truck or its occupants.
Deputies canvassed the area for the suspect(s) but they were not located. The shooting does not appear to be gang-related and the victims did not report any slogans or yelling heard before the shooting occurred.
