For unknown reasons, Bacon allowed his vehicle to drift over the broken yellow line and into the path of Ekindjian’s bus; Ekindjian tried to swerve out of the way, but could not avoid a head-on collision. Bacon sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

The bus rolled over after inpact on the eastbound lane and south shoulder of the road, ejecting passenger and Camp Crew member Fernando Sanchez, 25, of Santa Clarita, who suffered fatal injuries.

CHP and LA County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene to triage the victims; Ekindjian was airlifted from the scene, along with five other members of the camp crew to Antelope Valley Hospital with injuries ranging from moderate to major.

The remaining injured were transported by ground to local hospitals.

The CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
