Reyna Medina of Inglewood and an unidentified passenger were pronounced dead this morning after an incident involving two vehicles occured on the I-5 freeway at Gavin Canyon.
The incident occured at approximately 6:30 a.m. when, Huy Huang of Gardena, the driver of a 2001 Acura TL was traveling on the I-5 freeway at 65 miles per hour.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the Acura made an unsafe turning movement after he began to hydroplane. The car spiraled and traveled across two lanes where the rear of the Acura collided into the rear of Medina’s 2005 Mercedes. This caused the Mercedes to collide into the cement dividing wall.
Medina and a passenger of the Acura sustained severe head trauma and were pronounced dead on scene at 7:00 a.m. The identity of the passenger was withheld pending notification of their family.
Neither drugs or alcohol appeared to be a factor. The collision is still under investigation.
