Two Shows Open At Canyon Theatre Guild

cinderellaThe CTG is bringing two comedies to its stage.

The Canyon Theatre Guild is starting off the 2009-2010 season with two twisted tales.   The first is a twist to the classic Cinderella tale with “Cinderella, A Dream Come True,” and the second it’s a ride down a twisted road of lies and comedy with “Who Was That Lady I Saw You With?”

The beloved tale of Cinderella comes to life on the stage of the Canyon Theatre Guild’s Old Town Newhall Playhouse on August 1.

This enchanting rags-to-riches tale of a young woman’s chance at true love is perfect for both the young and the young-at-heart.

This version is narrated by the King’s Jester. All the well-known characters are here, including the wicked stepmother, the cruel stepsisters and a magical, if a bit absent-minded Fairy Godmother.

There are even a few mice to help get “Ella” ready for the ball, along with her faithful dog, Algernon.

Of course, there are the King and Queen, planning a ball in an attempt to find a wife for their adventurous son, the Prince.

The magical tale has humor, spectacle, heroes and villains, a show for the entire family.  “Cinderella, A Dream Come True” has performances every Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. through August 30.  There are Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on August 9, 23, and 30, and Sunday evening shows at 6:30 PM on August 2 and 16.

WhoWasThatSet in the 1950’s, “Who Was That Lady I Saw You With,” is the story of David Williams, an innocent Columbia University chemistry professor who can make liquor as easily as an alchemist can make gold.  Unfortunately, his wife discovers him in another harmless pastime, kissing a female student.

In order to keep her from leaving him, the professor and his pal, a television writer with a fertile imagination, come up with a story in which they work for the FBI and David was kissing a foreign spy in the line of duty.

The ruse seems to work until the real FBI come in, including a secret agent with stomach trouble.

Our heroes find themselves involved with not only the FBI, but with real spies – at least until it’s all straightened out in a fast and funny finish.

This fast paced comedy of errors opens with a champagne and wine reception tonight, followed by performances every Friday and Saturday evening at 8 p.m. through August 29.  There will be Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. on August 2, and August 16.

Ticket prices for both shows are $10-$12 for Juniors/Seniors and $12-$15 for Adults.

For reservations call (661) 799-2702, and the CTG Playhouse is located at 24242 Main Street in Old Town Newhall.
