Typhoon Haiyan Victims To Receive Aid From Sister Cities Program

Typhoon Haiyan Victims To Receive Aid From Sister Cities Program

Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines has left literally millions of Filipinos without basic necessities, like food, water or shelter. As the official death toll climbs past 4,000, international organizations like the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF and World Vision are accepting donations to buy supplies for the victims.

Typhoon Haiyan DevastationLocal nonprofit, the Santa Clarita Valley International Program is also raising money, specifically to help the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center in Tacloban City, capital of the hardest-hit Leyte Province.

SCVIP is also sending donations to the ABS-CBN Foundation, the public service arm of the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, according to their website.

Tess Simgen, SCVIP boardmember and administrative analyst for the city of Santa Clarita, said that she expects the hospital and foundation will use the money to buy medical supplies, water and food, like rice or canned goods.

“The foundation knows what the specific needs of the people are,” she said.

Right now, SCVIP is accepting donations by mail or in person only.
