Underground Equipment Failure Causes Power Outage

Power_Lines_SmallUPDATED 1:14 p.m. Tuesday

A blown transformer plunged nearly 1,700 customers into the darkness Monday night, but the lights went back on within an hour, thanks to quick response by Edison crews.

According to Edison spokesperson Anne Frutos-Sanchez, the initial equipment failure at 9:06 p.m. took out power for 1,687 customers, but almost immediately, circuit switching picked up more than 650 customers, leaving 1,033 without electricity until 10:24 p.m.

The outage affected customers at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, including those watching movies at the Regal Cinema complex. The boundaries of the outage area were Tourney Road, McBean Parkway, Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway.

Frutos-Sanchez said that power was restored to all customers by 10:24 p.m., except for a few pumps on the course at Valencia Country Club, which came back online at 5:23 a.m.
