Unemployment Rates Up Slightly In SCV

Writers Strike took its toll locally.

 

Effects of the Writer’s Strike are reflected in local unemployment rates, which went up slightly more than a half-percent in January to 3.6 percent, as reported by the California Employment Development Department.

With a reported work force of 91,400 in January, the area showed a slight increase in workers over the last year, growing from 88,100 a year ago. The average unemployment rate in 2007 in Santa Clarita was 3 percent.

Figures in Los Angeles County were nearly double that of Santa Clarita, with a workforce of 4,917,200 and a 6 percent unemployment rate, compared to an annual average of 4,675,300 workers with 5 percent unemployed.
