Prospective students invited to explore degree possibilities, talk with counselors, instructors.
With construction on the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University
Center scheduled for completion in the spring, this month
College of the Canyons will host an
open house event designed to answer questions and provide information about the
and its partner institutions to prospective students.
The College of the Canyons University
Center open house will take place
from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, January 21 in the college’s Interim
located on the Valencia
campus. Parking in the campus parking lots 13, 14, and 15 is free for this
During the event, prospective students and curious community members will be
able to talk with university representatives, learn about financial aid programs,
meet with academic counselors and fill out admissions applications.
Cited as the college’s solution to the lack of upper division, graduate school
and continuing education programs in the Santa Clarita Valley, the University
Center was created with a goal to increase student access to advanced degrees
by forging partnerships with surrounding four-year colleges and universities —
which then make their academic programs available to students through courses
offered at College of the Canyons.
Though such academic opportunities have been available at the college’s Interim
University Center since 2002, students enrolled in University Center programs
in 2009 will be among the very first to utilize the permanent center’s brand
new classrooms and exceptional educational facilities.
Located on the southern boundary of the Valencia Campus — positioned to command
a spectacular view of the valley — the 110,000 square foot Dr. Dianne G. Van
Hook University Center is expected to house up to 10 partner institutions and
offer more than 50 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees and credential
programs. Current partner institutions include University
of La Verne, UCLA Extension, Chapman
University, California State
University (CSU) Bakersfield and
