A child was hit by a car Tuesday afternoon in front of Wiley Canyon
Elementary school.
[view:node_ad=5]According to Alexis Yannich, Principal of Wiley Canyon Elementary School, the young boy was struck while crossing the street after school to get to a vehicle that was picking him up.
The boy was airlifted to Children's Hospital where he was given a cat scan and examined by doctors. Aside from a few abrasions the child was given a clean bill of health and is expected to return home this afternoon.
In light of yesterday's incident, Yannich is spreading the message of "safety first."
"Well we always recommended that parents and students follow safe traffic rules; using crosswalks, crossing at the corners of streets, always looking both ways before they step off the curb," She said.
One of the best ways to ensure that children get to the car safely is for parents to park their car and escort their children across the roadway.
"Hopefully we're going to sacrifice a little bit of convenience and make sure that we're walking with our children," Yannich said.
