Update On I-5/Magic Mountain Pkwy Improvements

The City is pleased to announce that Metro approved five million dollars of additional funding for construction expenditures for Phase 2 improvements.

This is exciting news as monies can be used to cover the escalation of construction costs that have occurred since the original 1999 Metro approval date.

The general contractor, Security Paving Construction, is continuing the construction of the rectangular shaped storm drain box, which is located west of The Old Road.  They will begin construction for the box on the south side of Magic Mountain Parkway late February.  Construction progress on the box has slowed down a little due to unresolved issues with the new Skyview Lane and the Chevron station.

The widening of the southbound on-ramp is continuing and it is anticipated that the additional lane will be ready for use by summer 2007.  Construction of the retaining walls for the southbound off-ramp is on-going with an expected completion of March 2007.

Construction of the new water lines on Magic Mountain Parkway west of The Old Road by Valencia Water and Castaic Lake Water Agency is on-going.  Traffic impacts should be minimal. Due to major design revisions, AT&T's underground utility work on Magic Mountain Parkway has been delayed until further notice.

The bus stops on Magic Mountain Parkway west of The Old Road on each side of the street will be permanently removed due to the road widening.  Transit is currently working on new bus stop locations for both The Old Road and Magic Mountain Parkway.

Currently, we are working on Phase 2 of the 11 phases for these improvements.  The anticipated completion of this phase is fall 2007.  During this phase, existing ramps, at least one lane, and local roadways (Magic Mountain Parkway and The Old Road) will be open for vehicular traffic.

Please check the City of Santa Clarita's website at or the project hotline (661) 290-2297, for any extended major lane closures, detours, or news associated with this project.

Thank you for your continued patience and support!
