[view:node_ad=5]UPDATE: 9:26 p.m. – Emergency crews have pulled out of the area and the pipe was sealed.
At about 4:30 Tuesday afternoon, Los Angeles County fire crews were called to Placerita Canyon Rd. in Newhall to the site of a gas leak.
A 4-5 inch gas line was found to be compromised and four full fire crews stood by as a precaution, along with a Hazardous Materials crew as Gas Company workers fixed the pipe well into the evening hours.
No fire or immediate danger was originally suspected. However, as a precaution, approximately 70 homes were issued a voluntary evacuation notice. Five homeowners decided to leave, the rest stayed in their homes.
The incident occurred on Placerita Canyon Road between Dudley Dr. and Choke Cherry, just east of the Masters College.
The Masters College was not in the evacuation area and was never considered to be in any danger.
