UPDATED 6:53 a.m. Tuesday
A body found near the junction of the eastbound 126 and the southbound I-5 may or may not be that of a missing Newhall woman, who was last seen getting off a bus in Castaic two weeks ago.
Sheriff’s officials confirmed that shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, a gardener found the decomposing remains of a young blonde female behind buildings that compose a strip mall near the Caltrans yard on The Old Road.
The body was found between the buildings and the freeway.
Homicide detectives released a statement Monday night saying that they believe the victim may be Brigett Kennemore, an 18 year-old Valencia High student with disabilities who has been missing for two weeks.
“The decedent may be Kennemore and the cause of death is a tragic suicide,” said the Sheriff’s department statement. “The identity of the decedent will ultimately be determined by the coroner’s office.”
Kennemore was last seen October 26, exiting a bus in Castaic after a break up with her boyfriend. Her family and Sheriff’s detectives conducted a search last weekend, however no clues to her whereabouts were discovered.
An official ruling on the victim’s identity has yet to be released by the Los Angeles County coroner.
The CHP closed the eastbound 126 transition road to the southbound I-5 as well as the Henry Mayo Drive onramp to the southbound I-5 during the investigation.
