Shortly before 1 p.m. two cars collided near Hall Road, West of Fillmore. The collision fatally injured one of the passengers in a car filled with young people headed for Magic Mountain. The accident closed Hwy 126 in both directions for several hours causing a massive traffic backup.
According to the Ventura Area CHP, the accident was classified as a non-contact hit and run, with the suspect vehicle still outstanding. Anyone with information is asked to call them at (805) 477-4100.

Alma Paz, 20, of Camarillo, was driving a white 1999 Ford Mustang, traveling eastbound on the 126 in the #2 lane east of Toland Road. Paz had three passengers with her and the group was on their way to Magic Mountain. Paz had just passed a big rig truck which was traveling in the #1 lane after turning left from Toland Road.
According to witnesses, a dark gray sedan with tinted windows came up behind the big rig truck in the eastbound #1 lane, traveling 70-75 mph. The gray sedan then mvoed left into the two-way left turn land and passed the big rig. Paz and the gray sedan simultaneously changed lanes into the eastbound #1 lane after passing the big rig. She saw the gray sedan changing lanes and swerved back to the right to avoid a collision.
Paz lost control of her vehicle as it began to fishtail and eventually veered left into the westbound #1 land directly into the path of a black 2005 Chevrolet full-sized pickup truck driven by David Espinoza, 62, of Camarillo. Espinosa’s truck struck Paz’s vehicle in the westbound #1 lane. The gray sedan fled the scene traveling eastbound on the 126.
The passenger seated at the left rear seat of Paz’s car was killed in the collision. The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene by fire department personnel, was a 31-year old female from Camarillo. Her name was not released. Paz was taken by ambulance to the Ventura County Medical Center where she was treated for lacerations and a possible concussion.
Omar Ortiz, 21, of Camarillo, was the passenger in the right front seat of Paz’s car and was not injured. Fredi De Jesus Leos Martinez, 26, of Camarillo was seated in the right rear passenger’s seat of Paz’s car and sustained major internal injuries in the collision. He was airlifted to VCMC. Espinosa, the driver of the pickup truck, was taken to Santa Paula Hospital, where he was treated for neck and back pain. He was on his way to Santa Paula from Fillmore when the collision occurred.
