UPDATED 1:33 p.m. Tuesday

The I-5 freeway is open and traffic is running as smoothly as can be expected after being closed overnight in both directions due to heavy snow in the Fort Tejon/Grapevine area.

The I-5 freeway, which was closed Monday night at 6 p.m. due to snow in the Fort Tejon area, will remain closed into Tuesday morning, with opening anticipated around 10 a.m. The freeway opened completely at 11 a.m.

The freeway was completely closed northbound at Lake Hughes Road and southbound traffic was stopped at the Grapevine.

Traffic officials recommended northbound travelers take the 126 to the 101 freeway.

The closure was established shortly after dusk Monday when the expected show started to stick and create drifts near historic Fort Tejon. CHP and Caltrans closed northbound traffic at Parker Road in Castaic, and diverted southbound traffic above Fort Tejon in Kern County.

Stay tuned to KHTS for up-to-date weather reports and road conditions.
