At approximately 5:20 p.m., Rolando Imperial, 41, was riding his motorcycle westbound on Pleasantdale Street in Canyon Country when the driver of a blue compact sedan turned left in front of him on to Deeptree Drive. Imperial was unable to stop, according to Sgt. Richard Cohen.

"He laid down the bike, but then he ran into the vehicle," Cohen said. "He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver was described as a male in his 50s or 60s. Cohen said he was being detained to get blood samples that will determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

"We don't think so right now, but we need to check," Cohen said. He said both men involved in the accident were residents of the quiet neighborhood behind the junior high school.

This is the second fatal motorcycle accident in the North Oaks area in the last nine months. On Jan. 28, Kyle Seaholm died when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on Camp Plenty Road near Nadal St.

"Most of the motorcycle accidents we see are speed related," Cohen said. "A couple are related to alcohol use."

Cohen advised that motorists, both motorcyclists and vehicle drivers, drive slowly and be aware of their surroundings.
