UPDATED: One Killed, One Injured In Sand Canyon Collision

Canyon Country resident Dakota John Demott, 19, was killed in a single-car accident Tuesday night when he was ejected from the car and hit a fence on Sand Canyon Road. The driver of the car, who has not been identified, suffered life-threatening injuries and is in a local hospital.

The crash occurred at 10:54 p.m. when the driver entered a curve on Sand Canyon at Alamo Canyon Road and lost control of his Ford Mustang.

He collided with a large tree and Demott was ejected from the vehicle.

According to Sgt. Mike Konecny of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, “witnesses saw the vehicle driving southbound on Sand Canyon at extremely high speeds just moments prior to the collision.”

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics pronounced Demott dead at the scene. His identity was confirmed by Coroner spokesman Ed Winter Wednesday morning.

The driver, whose name has not been released, was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
