UPDATED: Plane Crash In Agua Dulce

UPDATED: Friday, 11:57 a.m.

Coroner’s officials have confirmed that three people were killed in the crash of a single engine Cirrus SR22 plane Thursday afternoon.

The plane that hit the side of a barn on Canyon Quail Trail in Agua Dulce. Three horses in the barn’s corral also perished.

According to Captain Bob Goldman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, a 911 call was received shortly after noon, reporting a possible aircraft down in the 33200 block of Canyon Quail Trail.

“Units arrived on the scene and found a barn area on fire with a couple of L.A. County Fire off-duty trying to suppress the fire and what appeared to be the remnants of an aircraft that had crashed into a pipe corral area directly behind the barn.”

Goldman said that two of the casualties appeared to have been passengers on the plane.

“At this time we’ve been able to confirm that there appears to have been two souls on board the aircraft that perished at the point of impact,” he said. Coroner’s officials increased the body count early Friday morning.
He added that three out of the four horses in the enclosed area died due to injuries received in the crash.

Officials from the National Transportation and Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were on the scene by mid-afternoon and investigators from Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Aero Bureau were also there. The plane had just left Van Nuys Airport and was headed for Parker, Arizona before it went down.

Goldman said that there were no other injuries or structural damage.

“At this time it’s hard to determine exactly how many folks, how many souls, were on board the aircraft,” he said. “Just from observations at the scene, it would appear that there were two souls on board.”

He said that the aircraft was made of lightweight material, mostly Fiberglas, with an aluminum frame.

“The landing gear is very small in diameter, and the tires are small,” he explained. “There is a possibility that this aircraft was either an ultralight, an experimental, a home-built aircraft or a very, very small manufactured aircraft.

Access on Canyon Quail Trail and Pewter Road is restricted to residents with proper identification.
