UPDATED: Saugus High Student Found Semi-Conscious On Hillside Near School

khts_ambulanceUPDATED 3:48 p.m. Tuesday

A student found semi-conscious this morning on a hillside near the campus of Saugus High School has been taken to the hospital and is receiving medical care.

Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station said that the young woman had “put something around her neck and was screaming for help.” He said that the object around her neck was attached to a sign near the oversized blue “S” that denotes the school’s property.

Students helped her down from the sign and she ended up on the ground, where she was found by a teacher, who revived her.

According to Saugus Principal Bill Bolde, there was a class on the track during first period, around 7:30 a.m.. Students in that class heard screaming and saw some commotion on the hillside.

Teacher Dave Stradling ran up to where the young woman was and found her to be lucid, but irritated. She began flailing around, but Stradling was able to calm her and medical help was summoned.

Deputies and paramedics responded to the school and took the student to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

Bolde immediately sent a message out to parents via the ConnectEd system, advising them that “we are precluded from making any comments about the student and any particular details about the situation. Be aware that school and district counselors, psychologists and administrators are available for students and staff to talk to, if they feel the need.”

Despite all good intentions, social networks buzzed with rumors, but Bolde said there was no indication of anything wrong with the student.

“We have done the best we could do to contact teachers and staff,” he said. “We talked to that student’s teachers and from what they said, she had a perfect day yesterday.

“We can’t tell you what it was, because we don’t really know,” Bolde continued. “But I can assure you that the student is in good hands.”
