A Saugus man who died Sunday morning in an early Sunday morning accident on Bouquet Canyon Road has been identified as Christopher P. McElroy, 24, of Saugus.

According to California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer John Lutz, the accident occurred at 1:40 a.m. on Bouquet Canyon Road near Shadow Valley Road.

Walter Vollmer, 69, of Canyon Country, was driving his 1989 Mercedes Benz southbound on Bouquet, traveling at about 50 mph when he hit McElroy, who was wearing dark clothing and walking in the traffic lane. Lutz said that witnesses reported seeing McElroy walking in the vehicle lanes prior to the accident.

McElroy was declared dead at the scene. Vollmer was not cited.
