The L.A. County Fire Department Hazmat Team determined that the white substance found inside a balloon at Canyon Country Park was flour and not a harmful material. All children detained as a precaution have been released and are currently returning to their school, Canyon Springs Elementary, in Canyon Country.
A school bus carrying 60 local elementary-aged children on a field trip wa being held at Canyon Country Park so Los Angeles County Fire Hazardous Materials personnel can examine the contents of a balloon brought on board by one of the children.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, the children were in the park when one of the students got back on the bus with a balloon that he found in one of the bathrooms. When the balloon popped, a white, powdery substance got on him and some of the other children.
As a precaution, LA County Fire Health Hazmat was called in to examine the substance. None of the children experienced any breathing problems or suffered any injuries, the examination was strictly precautionary.

The park, which is located at 17615 Soledad Canyon Road, was closed to the public to facilitate HazMat’s examination. City parks workers were also detained as a precaution.
