UPDATED: Suspects Charged With Burglary, Assault In Canyon Country

Updated Friday, Sept. 9 at 1:30 p.m.

Two men were arrested for allegedly burglarizing a truck in Canyon Country Thursday afternoon, and one suspect was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon while allegedly attempting to escape from the truck’s owner.

“Two males were seen breaking into a victim’s truck in the 27200 block of Plumwood Avenue, and items being taken from the truck,” said Det. Sgt. Kevin Blake of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

0908_arrest_taco_bell_sm“The victims were advised by the neighbor. One of the victims started checking the area and located the suspects,” Blake said. “One of the suspects jumped over a fence. The victims followed the suspect to a parking lot at Crossglade on Soledad, probably the Taco Bell. The suspect apparently picked up a wrench that was on the ground someplace in the parking lot, and attempted to sling it at one of the victims in an attempt to escape. Deputies got there shortly thereafter and assisted in detaining the suspect. An additional suspect was located in a laundromat in that vicinity.”

Blake said deputies arrested Jose Villegas, 35, of Palmdale, and Allan Malesza, 20, of Canyon Country, and charged both with burglary. Malesza has also been charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Both suspects are being held at the SCV Sheriff’s Station, Blake said. Villegas’ bail has been set at $20,000, while Malesza’s has been set at $30,000.

Both are due for arraignment in San Fernando Superior Court on Monday.

“A deputy in the area observed two males fighting in the parking lot about 12:20 p.m.,” said Sgt. Rich Nagler of the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
Nagler said the deputy detained the two men and called for backup. One suspect fled but was captured soon after behind the laundromat on the north side of Soledad Canyon Road. Nagler said one of the men may have been a victim of a vehicle burglary, and another allegedly wielded a pipe wrench as a weapon.

According to Sgt. Darren Harris, SCV Sheriff’s Station public information officer, the suspects may have been breaking into cars, and there may be stolen property involved.

Nagler said the incident was still under investigation.
