UPDATED 4:40 p.m. Wednesday

Caltrans is in the process of cleaning up the scene of a traffic collision on the northbound 14 and Sand Canyon Road where a car carrier loaded with BMWs crashed into a trash truck and burned. They estimate the northbound lanes of the freeway will be open shortly after 5:30 p.m.

All northbound lanes of the 14 freeway at Sand Canyon Road were closed at approximately 1:15 p.m.

During the early stages of the fire, gas tanks and airbags in the cars on the carrier exploded from the heat.The fire department has put out the fire, but has warned that cleanup is extensive and will take at least another hour.

A Sigalert will be in effect for approximately two hours for investigation and cleanup.

CHP has closed the Northbound Via Princessa onramp due to vehicles attempting to exit the wrong way.
