A transformer exploded in a backyard in the 26600 block of Cabaletta Drive in Saugus, causing a fire at that location and a significant power outage in the area, as well as into the Northbridge tract across Bouquet Canyon Road.
Edison spokesman Steve Conroy told KHTS that mylar balloons drifting into power lines around 10:59 a.m. caused the problem.
Traffic signals at the intersections of Newhall Ranch Road at both Grandview Drive and Hillsboro Parkway were affected. Sheriff’s deputies provided traffic control until the power was restored shortly after noon.

Conroy said that 2,068 customers were affected. The outage affected mostly the Bridgeport community, within boundaries of Hillsboro Parkway on the north Newhall Ranch Road on the south, Santa Clarita Parkway on the east and Grandview Drive on the west.
Half of the affected customers were back to full power at 11:30 a.m.; all customers were restored completely by 1:52 p.m.
According to the L.A. County Fire Department, the transformer explosion caused a small fire that was out upon the department’s arrival.
