Sheriff’s official have corrected information released Saturday night, which had misidentifed a couple injured in a cycling ride in Lancaster as Valencia residents.

The couple, identified as Nathan and Deborah Rippee of Lancaster, were part of a group of about 20 riders involved in a ride organized by a Lancaster bicycle shop.

The local connection is that the driver of one of the cars involved in the crash was identified as a 42-year-old Guizla Morales of Valencia, who was driving a Honda Odyssey.

Morales was westbound on Avenue L at about 8 a.m. when she collided with a PT Cruiser being driven by Nikki Fuzell, 43, of Palmdale, who was traveling southbound on 4th Street East. The force of the collision drove Morales’ van into the Rippees, seriously injuring Nathan.

The Rippees were the last two riders in the cycling group; all the other riders had already gone through the intersection. Nathan Rippee is hospitalized at Antelope Valley Hospital in critical condition with head injuries, while Deborah Rippee suffered a broken shoulder; she was treated at AV Hospital and released.
