Friday afternoon, many of the students at Wiley Canyon Elementary school joined Congressman Buck McKeon in welcoming a special guest to their school.

Deputy Secretary for the US Department of Education Raymond Simon visited Wiley Canyon to present them with the No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Award.

The award is rare with less than three hundred schools in the United States being in receipt.

It highlights tremendous achievement on behalf of the students and innovative work by the teachers. It also notes the school’s progress in achievement, which has consistently increased.

When asked if he saw any specific examples of the school’s success, Simon was quick to point out two.

“One, is the fact that everyone who works here looks out for the kids,” Simon stated. “And number two, there are parents all over the place…I mean they’re crawling all over the school, and man, that’s the difference.”
