During the month of March, Fast Frame on Valencia Boulevard asked local first through fifth grade students to create a work of art describing what their superpower would be, as part of the annual Fast Frame National Art Contest.
About 18 children from all around the Santa Clarita Valley submitted artwork as part of a gallery that was on display this month at Fast Frame.
A local winner has already been selected. Briella Wadkins, third grader from Mountain View Elementary School and student at Mission Renaissance in Valencia, won first place. Her artwork was sent to the Fast Frame corporate office in Newbury Park.
The national winner will be announced by May 6, and receive a $250 Amex gift card, an additional $250 gift card for their school to help fund art supplies and a Scooby-Doo prize pack. The artwork will also be custom framed and will appear on the Fast Frame website for the month of May.
This is Fast Frame’s fourth year participating in the National Kids Art Contest.
“The winner at our store for the past three years has then gone on to win the national one…” said owner Randy Burzynski. “Not too many stores can say they’ve had three consecutive wins.”
The contest is something that Burzynski and his wife Rose Marie enjoy doing for the community and to help inspire creativity among local students.
“We get to work very closely with the local some of art teachers, both in the schools that participate, as well as in the private schools and in the private sector…” he said. “Kids really get excited when they see that their art is going to be on a wall in a gallery.”
