With state funding on hold, county decides to hold off on permanent span in canyon.

A spring closure of lanes on Vasquez
Canyon Road has been postponed until funding can
be secured for the permanent bridge over Bouquet Creek.
The bridge project is a victim of the unstable economy and
cutbacks required due to the state’s $41 billion shortfall.
The 40-foot temporary bridge installed after the Buckweed
fires was scheduled to be replaced in the spring; closing one lane at a time.
Despite the “shovel ready” status of the project, funding has been suspended
and the eight-month project will have to wait.
The original wooden bridge spanning the creek was destroyed
when fires swept through the canyon in October 2007.
