Ventura County Juvenile Leads Cops On Two-County Chase

A young woman led police on a wild chase in a stolen car Saturday afternoon, and ended up crashing into a pile of rocks in the Shadow Pines area of Canyon Country.

Captain Ross Bonfiglio of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said that 15-year old girl was the subject of a crime broadcast when the van she was driving was reported stolen in Ventura Saturday afternoon.

Prompted by information in the crime broadcast that the suspect might be headed for Bakersfield,  a Ventura County sheriff’s deputy working for the city of Fillmore was waiting along Highway 126  and when he spotted the van headed east, he attempted to make a traffic stop.

The girl fled from the deputy, at speeds between 80 and 85 MPH heading east towards Santa Clarita. Approaching the Los Angeles County border, Ventura County contacted the Newhall CHP, who took over the chase, including an air support unit over the eastbound Newhall Ranch Road/Rye Canyon Road area.

CHP Officer John Lutz said that the pursuit covered Santa Clarita city streets at speeds varying between 50 to 80 MPH, slowing only at intersections. The driver hit two vehicles as she proceeded, causing minor property damage. She traveled southbound on Bouquet Canyon Road and eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road, where CHP units attempted a PIT maneuver near Camp Plenty Road that was unsuccessful.

She continued traveling eastbound on Soledad Canyon Road, passing Poppymeadow Road, where she ran off Soledad and into a mound of boulders.

She was arrested at the scene and taken for booking at Sylmar Juvenile Hall. She faces felony charges of evading arrest and vehicle theft.
