The community is invited to attend a tree-lighting ceremony to honor local members of the military Saturday night.

The event will begin at 7 pm and will be held in the Veterans Historical Plaza in downtown Newhall. Hosted by the Historical Veterans Memorial Committee, Prayer Angels for the Military and Blue Star Mothers Chapter 82 and 91, the evening is a cozy community gathering to celebrate our hometown heroes.

Local singer/playwright Marilyn Hackett will be among the performers.

At the center of the activities is the 25-foot pine tree, decorated with red, white and blue lights and ornaments bearing pictures of local service members. The community is invited to submit pictures and information on their military loved ones (active duty, reserves, veterans and fallen heroes) for inclusion on the tree.
