The victims of Monday’s double fatal crash on the I-5 were identified Tuesday by the California Highway Patrol as a brother and sister from Shafter in Kern County.

Ronald Benedetti was driving his 1999 Ford F-350 pickup truck in the same lane as the disabled motorcycle at approximately 65 MPH and was unable to slow down or stop his truck. He struck the rear of the Neon, pushing it forward, striking Poggio and his motorcycle, ejecting both onto the roadway to the north.
The truck continued to push the Neon over the raise median into the truck bypass route, striking the concrete K-rail barrier before coming to rest. Both Alan and Lindsay Poggio were pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.
Benedetti was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor in this collision.
