When the William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board meets twice a month, the schedule is busy. It’s always busy. And with 20,000 students in Santa Clarita, their next meeting on October 18th will be no different.
The meetings usually begin with a chance for the public to speak before the board goes into a closed session. After the closed session, the board will hold a public hearing on textbooks and educational materials, and discuss what’s good in education presently. Then it’s on to some personal introductions. Wednesday they will unveil a new student board member, recognize L.A. County Teacher of the Year Laura Arrowsmith, and appoint the new planning administrator for the Early College High School. Three new members of the Measure V Citizens Oversight Committee will also be appointed.
Other business includes:
Presentation of Audit findings in regards to management of funds used to renovate and modernize Arroyo Seco Jr. High, Canyon High and Saugus High.
Presentation on options for using 1.7 million in money received from the state for increased counseling services.
The board will take bids on the relocation of modular buildings at Canyon and Saugus High Schools.
The opportunity to actively participate in board meetings is open to everyone, and President of the board Paul Strickland encourages those interested in any issues regarding local Jr. High and High Schools to attend. Hart district is located at 21515 Centre Point Parkway in Canyon Country. For a complete schedule of meetings, visit hartdistrict.org.
