After experiencing a brief thunderstorm Friday night, officials with the National Weather Service (NWS) are predicting clear skies and moderate temperatures for the Santa Clarita Valley.

“Santa Clarita could see a few showers and thunderstorms throughout the night,” said Keily Dellerme, a NWS meteorologist, on Friday night. “By Saturday evening, all rain should be out of the area.”

Santa Clarita has a 20 percent chance of isolated showers throughout the rest of Saturday afternoon, clearing up by the evening with a low of 54 degrees.

Sunday is expected to be clear and sunny, with high temperatures reaching 80 degrees, and lows dropping down to about 54 degrees. Sunday night also marks the beginning of a Fire Weather Watch, as winds are expected to gust as high as 40 miles per hour.

The Fire Weather Watch is expected to last through Tuesday evening, according to NWS officials.

“Gusty northeast winds will return Sunday afternoon and night, then continue through Wednesday, with strong upper level support,” reads the warning on the NWS website. “These winds will peak Sunday night through Monday when gusts in the 40 to 60 mph range are expected over the favored areas of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. Widespread minimum humidities between 5 and 10 percent are likely.”

As a result of the high winds and low humidities, NWS officials are predicting possibly critical fire weather conditions from Sunday night through Tuesday, with the possibility of the weather lasting longer.

“There is a chance that critical conditions persist through Wednesday,” the warning reads. “This Fire Weather Watch will likely be converted to a Red Flag Warning over the weekend.”

The rest of the coming week is expected to be clear and sunny, with temperatures reach the high 80’s during the day, and dropping to the high 50’s during the evening.
