Wednesday’s high was forecasted to hit the upper 90s, with Thursday and Friday temperatures expected to be similar, according to Ryan Kittell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Sizzling temperatures bring a reason to hit the beach or take a swim, but they also bring dangers to residents. Officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department warned Santa Clarita residents to cool off if they feel dizzy, weak, have muscle cramps or stop sweating, because these may be symptoms of heat stroke.

The sub-100 degree forecast is not expected to come anywhere close to the record high for June 20 – 114 degrees – set in 2016.

But, Kittel said, Santa Clarita residents could expect a cooler period by Sunday or Monday, with temperatures dipping to the 80s.

The warm weather is normal for this time of year, but the summer as a whole may be hotter than average, Kittell said.

The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center predicts El Ñino conditions for Southern California, meaning higher temperatures than average for at least the next three months.

Kittell warned about an abundance of vegetation from recent rainy seasons during the summer months, saying conditions are perfect for wildfires.

“The vegetation is already dry enough that fires can grow rapidly and will continue to dry from the summer to fall,” he said.
